Fundamentals of Storytelling

（剧本创作的基本原理）

Course Introduction

This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of storytelling in different media contexts, with a particular focus on its application to film. We will cover the key elements of storytelling – narrative structure, characters, and setting – and how they interact to create compelling stories that engage and evoke appropriate emotional responses from audiences. We will also explore how conventions of storytelling have developed, and how these conventions can be utilised and subverted creatively. This course will be useful to students not only in writing their own stories, but also for bringing them to life in creative practice, whether onstage, through song, or as filmmakers.

本课程将向学生介绍不同媒体背景下剧本创作的基本原理，特别关注其在电影中的应用。我们将介绍剧本创作的关键要素 - 叙事结构，人物和场景 - 以及他们如何互动以创造引人入胜的故事，吸引并引起观众的适当情绪反应。我们还将探讨剧本创作的惯例是如何形成的，以及如何创造性地利用和颠覆这些惯例。本课程既可以帮助学生创作剧本，还可以在舞台演出、歌曲编写或电影制作的创作实践中将其付诸实践。
